The area of Business, Industry & Government (B.I.G.) encompasses the division of Business, the Urban Issues Institute, The College Success Seminar and the New Jersey Talent Network.


The Business Division offers A.S. degree programs transferrable to top quality four-year institutions such as Rutgers, NJIT, Montclair State University, and Seton Hall University & Kean University. A.S. degree program graduates have been accepted to institutions such as Columbia University & New York University to name a few.


The Business Division also offers A.A.S. and Business Certificates designed to prepare students for business careers upon graduation.  All academic programs at Essex County College are fully accredited by the Middle States Commission of Higher Education. The Business Division is a member of the ACBSP (Accreditation Council of Business School Programs).  The faculty of the Business Division have diverse academic and professional backgrounds including years of corporate executive and business ownership experience as well as many with earned doctorates in their field.


The Urban Issues Institute explores urban challenges and opportunities in areas such as urban education, civic responsibility, entrepreneurship, hip hop culture, poverty, crime, immigration, homelessness, health & other topics.  ECC students and alumni work with faculty, scholars, civic leaders, artists and other stakeholders to promote common initiatives and foster lasting, effective positive change.


The College Success Seminar crosses all academic programs & majors which prepare all first-time college students for college life. The course offers critical information that promotes goal-oriented behavior that reinforces self-assessment, self-management, retention and graduation.  All entering students are strongly encouraged and advised to complete The College Success Seminar in the first semester.


The New Jersey Talent Network – The New Jersey Department of Labor (DOL) created the NJ Talent Network to encourage strategic partnerships with major industry employers, academic institutions such as Essex County College & workforce development professionals so that graduates have the knowledge, skills, certifications, degrees and internship experiences that can lead to career success in select industries.   The Division of Business, Industry & Government  (B.I.G.) is committed to partnering with the Talent Network & New Jersey industry leaders with a focus on the following industries- Transportation, Logistics & Distribution; Life Sciences; Advanced Manufacturing; Financial Services; Health Care; Technology & Entrepreneurship.


The area of Business, Industry & Government is dedicated to preparing our graduates to be highly competitive in their chosen professional field and providing them the tools to set and achieve their academic and personal goals.
