Hensley Charles begins his first stint as a college basketball coach for the 2011-12 season.
Hensley Charles was a former high school and college player for Head Coach Corey Lowery. At Hillside High School Charles was an All-County and All-State performer who led his team to a Mountain Valley Conference Championship and a State Sectional Finals appearance. After graduation, Charles received a full athletic scholarship to play basketball at Niagra University where he won the MAAC conference Championship as a Freshman and his team went along and played in the Division I NCAA March Madness Tournament. After deciding he wanted to be re-recruited Charles enrolled at Middlesex County College to play for his former high school coach. Charles earned 1st Team All-American honors averaging 17 pts and 13 rebounds and led his team to a 25-2 record, GSAC championship, and the Finals of the Region XIX tournament. Charles received another athletic scholarship to attend West Virginia State University. At West Virginia State, Charles won another conference championship and participated in the Division II NCAA tournament.
Charles graduated from West Virginia State with a degree in Sociology.
