Essex County College will participate in the Transportation, Logistics and Distribution (TLD) Talent Network Industry Summit set for August 17 on the campus of neighboring New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Essex partnered with NJIT last year as part of the state Department of Labor & Workforce Development’s Talent Network Grant.
The Essex-NJIT partnership is being funded through a $127,000 state grant.
The TLD Talent Network is building partnerships in the industry to develop and support TLD in New Jersey and formulate strategies for competing at the regional, national, and global levels.
Training, Inc. Director Mitra Choudhury said, “The Summit will host TLD employers, state Department of Labor & Workforce Development partners, educational institutions, community organizations and other industry stakeholders.”
Director Choudhury said Essex is actively involved in the TLD component (one of seven of the state’s key industries identified by the Department of Labor) due to the College’s “workforce development expertise.”
The Industry Summit will explore the current state of the TLD industry in the Northeast Region and specifically New Jersey. Panelists will discuss current and future industry needs, building workforce capacity and leveraging innovation for growth.
Dr. Glenn McRae, Director of the Northeast Transportation Workforce Center at the University of Vermont, will be the keynote speaker. For over 30 years, Dr. McRae has been active in national and regional initiatives to build career pathways in TLD. He has also been involved in a number of efforts to develop skilled and sustainable worker pipelines for the TLD Industry.
