Essex County College (ECC) is the recipient of a $157,000 New Jersey Office of Homeland Security grant, money which will be used to purchase new security cameras and equipment at the main Newark campus.

With the specifications prepared and a vendor identified, the security equipment is expected to be up and running before the end of the year, said Dr. Joyce Wilson Harley, Acting Vice President for Administration & Finance. “The new equipment will enhance our camera operations, and the units can be used both inside and outside the building.”

Dr. Harley credited the College’s Department of Public Safety, specifically Director Anthony Cromartie and Associate Director Ronald Parm, for securing the grant. “My philosophy is that everyone should look to bring in additional resources for the College and, in this case, the cameras are not coming out of our capital budget.”

Cromartie said the new equipment will improve an already good ECC security system.  “It’s always gratifying when you can use grant funds to provide additional safety levels for our students and staff.”
