Student-athlete Andrea Foster, an outstanding distance runner for the Lady Wolverines track team, was Essex County College’s honored representative at the 32nd annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day held February 4. The event was held at Seton Hall University.

“Awards such as this one help me to continue to persevere toward my goals,” Andrea, a General Science major, said. She added that it takes self-discipline to achieve, something she learned at a young age from her mother, Alicia Fortune, growing up in the South American nation of Guyana.

Andrea, who can be seen on campus sporting a Clemson University cap, said the Atlantic Coast Conference school is her transfer top choice after she earns her Essex Associate degree in this spring. Her career goal is to become a doctor.

“For me, discipline is doing what should be done, even if sometimes you don’t want to do it,” noted Andrea. “Beyond the sky is my limit.”
