Gear Up! MPT Updates Its Broadcast Infrastructure

The Media Production and Technology (MPT) Center was awarded over $41,000 in Perkins Grant funds to update and increase the inventory of broadcast/video equipment and supplies. The items include high-definition field monitors, advanced digital Single Lens Reflex (SLR) cameras, and a high-end server system for the two broadcast channels that airs the MPT-controlled content.

“I am extremely excited about the upgrade to our facility and the new equipment that students will have available to them,” said Ms. Nadine Abram, Director of MPT.  “It is so imperative that we, as an institution of higher learning, mirror the world students will encounter once they have completed their academic studies and have entered the workforce.”

In addition, MPT is upgrading the Facilis server system utilized for the instructional and professional studios to manage media content. With an increase in production and the need to manage media content, both academically and professionally, the upgraded server provides the efficiency needed in the fast-paced world of video production.

The Center oversees two (2) cable channels, Cablevision, TV77 and Verizon FIOS Channel 37. Both channels are public access channels and are programmed through the TelVue server. The recently purchased HyperCaster will upgrade our current 10-year-old system and provide the College with video-streaming capabilities in the future.
