A major upgrade is coming to the cooling system at the Newark campus. The existing 750-ton unit, known as a chiller, will be replaced with a more efficient 500-ton machine. The old unit was installed in 1986. Work is scheduled to begin in June and be completed by next March. Additional upgrades to ECC’s HVAC system, such as enhancement of the computerized building control management system and general upgrades, are also scheduled under the contract awarded to Environmental Climate Control, Inc., of Wallington.
“The College will also receive an approximately $165,000 rebate for the project through the New Jersey Clean Energy Program,” said Jeffrey Shapiro, Director of the Facilities Management Department.
The total contract is for $1,994,900. Upon completion of the work, the College will realize a significant reduction in utility bills.
