Three tutorial labs to support developmental courses in English and mathematics are slated to open over the next several weeks. The board ratified a $524,000 contract with Ingrassia Construction Co., of Watchung, for the construction. The labs are in the former Yellow Area snack bar, the Blue Area, and the basement of the Clara E. Dasher Student Center.
“The labs will allow 10,000 hours of tutorial computer assisted instruction per week,” said Dr. Douglas Walcerz, Director of Academic Assessment.
The board also ratified a payment of $550,596.74 to Dell Marketing, Round Rock, Texas, for the purchase of 225 desktop computers and associated hardware and software for the labs, and a payment of $121,500 to McGraw Hill Companies, Blacklick, Ohio, for the purchase of mathematics software. Other purchases totaling just over $150,000 for the three labs will cover lab chairs, computer lab tables, and Laserjet Printers. The labs are supported in part by a $99,990 grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
