The College offers multiple types of employment. Individuals hired into any of the categories are subject to the regulations established and enforced by the College’s administration and Board of Trustees. Individuals, with the exception of adjunct faculty, hired into any of the categories, with the exception of adjunct faculty, will be required to establish principal residency in the State of New Jersey within 365 days from the date of hire.

Regular employees are classified by their bargaining unit associations or by the confidential nature of their employment. Employees in non-confidential positions are represented by collective bargaining units and are governed by the contractual agreements negotiated between the unit representatives and the College’s administration and Board of Trustees.
Employees in confidential positions are not represented by collective bargaining units, but are governed by the contractual agreements for their respective units.
Employees may be eligible for a number of benefits including paid holidays, health insurance, life insurance, pension benefits, tuition remission and tuition reimbursement.

Employees are classified as follows:
- Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)
- Support Staff (Clerical and Facilities)
The classification of confidential and non-confidential does not apply to Faculty, Security and the Fraternal Order Police.
Adjunct Faculty (Instructional)
Individuals employed as part-time instructional staff are classified as Adjunct Faculty, treated as Temporary employees, and are not eligible for tenure or academic rank. Adjunct Faculty services are usually assigned and contracted on a semester-by-semester basis and paid by contract hour. However, assignments and the rate of pay will vary for credit (academic) and non-credit (non-academic) assignments. Assignments for credit courses are limited to no more than three (3) courses per semester and twenty-one (21) contract hours per year. Assignments for non-credit programs may be contracted based on program schedule and paid by contact hour.
Minimum educational requirement for an Adjunct Faculty position is a Master’s degree in the area of discipline (credit courses), Bachelor’s degree in a related area (some non-credit programs) and/or relevant professional certification or licensure.
Students who are recipients of financial aid and have been granted College Work Study are ineligible for employment by the College. Students on College Work Study should contact the Financial Aid Office for employment opportunities and requirements.
Students who are not on Work Study are eligible for temporary employment at the College. Work assignments for students remain consistent with the semester or term of the student’s current enrollment at the College. Students are restricted to work no more than 19.5 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, and are eligible to work longer hours during the Summer.
Temporary Employment (Non-Instructional & Support)
Temporary employees provide service during the day, nights, evenings, and/or weekends depending on the assignment. Assignments are short term and must undergo a renewal process. Temporary employees are restricted to work no more than 19.5 hours per week. In unusual cases, temporary employees may be assigned to work a different schedule, exceeding the 19.5 hour restriction, based on the needs and demands of the assignment.
Volunteers are the individuals who voluntarily provide their services to the College with no expressed or implied promise or expectation of remuneration (e.g., salary, wages, insurance, or any other types of compensation, insurance and/or benefits).
