Recent Alumni Achievements

ECC’s 2008 valedictorian David Kariuki and 2007 valedictorian Bertheleau Ngakamproudly accepted the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarships in May 2008.  The scholarship was up to $90,000 in tuition assistance for three years of further baccalaureate study.  Kariuki is now enrolled at Stanford University and Ngakham at Cornell. 2006 Valedictorian José Medina was the first at ECC to win this prestigious award.  He is in his final year of engineering study at Georgia Tech.  In addition to Kariuki, Ngakham, and Medina, two other ECC students received the $2,500 All-USA scholarship in the past four years:  Kerry McCann in 2006 and Claudia Ordonez in 2005.

 

Gessika Innocent (Class of 2007) earned her bachelor's degree in Industrial and Labor Relations in May 2009 from Cornell University. She will be in Europe in 2010 participating in Cornell's partnership with Europe School of Management (ESLP), which leads to a master's in European Business, the equivalent of an MBA in the U.S.

Nadene Reid (Class of 2007) earned her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations in May 2009.  She will be attending the George Town University Law Center after receiving a $90,000 scholarship from the school.

Gladys Durand (Class of 2006) graduated with honors in the summer of 2008 from NJIT’s Civil Engineering program. She has secured a full-time position as an engineer in the ECO Restoration Group of the New Jersey engineering firm Louis Berger Group, Inc. in Morristown. She is involved in environmental mitigation projects, particularly wetland mitigation and hydraulic design. While working full-time at the firm, she is also taking master’s level courses part-time in NJIT’s Civil Engineering program, focusing on water resources and hydraulics.
Wilson Aiwuyor (Class of 2007) is an honors student at Syracuse University, working toward a baccalaureate in Government & International Relations.  He has just secured a fellowship from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School for six weeks of study at the institute in the summer of 2009. 

Sayyeda Lundy,who graduated from the Civil Construction Engineering Technology program at ECC in 2003, completed her B.S. from NJIT in 2005, and has been with Tishman Construction Corporation for three years.  She is a project manager at the World Trade reconstruction site.
