Dr. Marion Bolden, the former Superintendent of the Newark Public Schools District, has been appointed to the Essex County College Board of Trustees. Nominated to the post by Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. and approved by the County Board of Freeholders, her term runs through October 31, 2019.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to this fine institution,” Dr. Bolden said. She added that as head of the Newark school district, she helped establish several partnerships with Essex. “Over the years, I’ve seen so many of my former Newark schools students take the path to Essex County College, which is gratifying.
“I feel right at home here at ECC,” said the West Orange resident.
Dr. Bolden served as Newark schools superintendent for nine years. She previously held several administrative positions after starting her career as a mathematics teacher at Barringer High School. She earned her undergraduate degree from Montclair State University, and advanced degrees from the Bank Street College of Education, in New York,
