Essex County College continues to proudly display its caring side.

As part of the College’s 50th Anniversary celebration, the Community Service Subcommittee conducted a Community Connection Love Week February 13-15 in Newark.

“We served hot soup and gave out clothes and toiletries to community members in need at three different sites in Newark: Shani Baraka Center, Fountain of Life Church and Shekinah Glory Christian Church,” said Professor Kathlyn Battle. Professor Battle is co-chair of the Community Service Subcommittee along with Professor Ada Torres.

The clothing, soup, toiletries, clothing, coats and toiletries were donated by members of the Essex County College family from both the Newark and West Essex campuses.

The Love Week project followed an in-house goods drive in December for students and members of the community. Items distributed in December included winter wear, clothing, toys, toiletries and food. That effort included working with Joi’s Angels Community Center to distribute various supplies to people in need.
