A pair of October job fairs hosted by Essex County College’s Training, Inc., attracted nearly 700 students and other community residents looking to secure both full and part-time positions at area companies.
The Fall Job Fair, on October 18, had more than 600 interested people meeting with representatives of 11 large companies. Another 29 mostly students attended a smaller seasonal job fair by Macy’s on October 30. Of those in attendance at the Macy’s job fair, nearly half secured immediate seasonal positions.
Many of the positions available have been ideal for students looking to work part-time and seasonal while still attending class.
“These job fairs were both great opportunities for our students and the community in general to take advantage of the employers we have in the Essex County area,” said Mitra Choudhury, Director of Training, Inc. “The employers told me afterward that they were impressed with both the turnout at the job fairs and the quality of the applicants.”
Many of the available openings at the October 18 fair were entry level, mid-career, and career advancement positions.
Employers in attendance at the October 18 job fair were: The Arc of Essex County, Clara Maass Medical Center/RWJ Barnabas Health, Cosmopolitan Medical Staffing Solutions, Daughters of Israel, East Orange General Hospital, FedEx, Gateway, Newark Community Health Centers, Inc., NJ Transit, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center/RWJ Barnabas Health and Tiffany & Co.
Director Choudhury said the College’s Training, Inc. office is planning to offer other job fairs in the near future.
