Soccer Teams Look to Defend Region XIX Titles on Saturday

Following an 8-1 victory over RCBC on October 30, the Essex County College Men’s Soccer team looks to defend its Region XIX title this Saturday, November 2. They will be joined on Saturday in Philadelphia by the Lady Wolverine Soccer team, which advanced to the Women’s championship game following its win (3-2) over Mercer on October 26.

The Women’s team will square off against Sussex at 1 p.m. at the Temple University Sports Complex. The Men’s game, against Mercer, will follow at 3:30 p.m. Coach Monique Edouard’s team will be seeking its third consecutive Region XIX title.

On Wednesday in the regional semi-final game, Coach Dr. Richard Esposito’s team was paced by freshmen Killian Taghri (three goals and an assist) and Martim Cardoso (with two goals). Sophomore Matteo Geraci kept RCBC at bay in goal. Essex led 2-0 at the half, breaking the game open in the second stanza. Martim quickly started the scoring after intermission with a goal 30 seconds into the second half.

In the Lady Wolverine’s win last Saturday, Ashari Bowen netted all three goals for Essex. She was assisted by Mahalia Garvey on two of the goals, with Shamika Marcus assisting on the third. Makida Herbert recorded nine saves in the win.
