Both Essex County College (ECC) and the state Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) are celebrating 50 years of service to students and the community. Essex students joined more than 100 other EOF students, administrators and staff from around the state at the recent EOF Day in Trenton.
ECC’s program, with more than 1,200 students, is the largest EOF program among the state’s 19 community colleges.
The students and ECC EOF staff met with their local legislators, learned about state government and asked the lawmakers questions. Among the legislators the ECC students met was state Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-29), whose district covers Newark and Belleville.
EOF is funded through the state Office of the Secretary of Higher Education and the College. Throughout New Jersey, there are more than 13,000 EOF students, many of whom are the first in their families to attend college.
