Course Description: This is an introduction to and exploration of works and styles of African-American artists, especially the values expressed in their art.  It also includes concepts generated by the African Diaspora.

General Education Goals: ART 200 is affirmed in the following General Education Foundation Category:  Global and Cultural Awareness of Diversity.  The corresponding General Education Goal is as follows: Students will understand the importance of global perspective and culturally diverse peoples.  ART 200 also addresses the General Education Integrated Course Goal: Information Literacy, which is as follows: Students will address an information need by locating, evaluating, and effectively using information.

Course Goals: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. demonstrate knowledge of African-American art and artists;
  2. communicate accurate knowledge of African-American art, concepts, artists and the Diaspora in written and oral form; and
  3. use appropriate technology as a tool for researching African-American art.
