DHY 201 PERIODONTOLOGY I

DHY 201        PERIODONTOLOGY   I        (2 Credits)

The course examines the basic concepts of the anatomy and physiology of the gum with regard to the pathology of the periodontium, and the etiology and treatment of periodontal disease. The relationship between the histopathologic changes of the supporting structures of the teeth and the clinical situation is stressed.  The course includes information on the dental hygienist’s role in initial therapy and as a disease control therapist in maintaining oral health.

Prerequisite:  Formal acceptance into the program.
