Co-requisites:  ESL 073, ESL 074, ESL 076, and ESL 077                       Concurrent Courses:  None

Course Description: This is a basic English as a Second Language course designed to facilitate and develop the communicative oral competence of nonnative speakers of English.  Through the use of role-play, dialog, conversations, and oral presentations, students will enhance their spoken fluency and increase their ability to communicate basic needs, ideas, and feelings about everyday life.  Students will be afforded a comfortable and nurturing environment as they practice using English for the accomplishment of goal-oriented tasks of an academic and functional nature.  All class sessions will be conducted in English.

Course Goals: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. orally communicate personal facts, opinions, and information encountered in everyday life and based on interviews and topics of cultural and human interest in an effective manner;
  2. orally respond to questions related to the task at hand in an appropriate manner; and
  3. initiate and maintain original natural conversations.
