Course Description: This is an advanced course in speaking and listening for students of English as second language.  Entering students must possess a high degree of literacy in their primary language as well as a high-intermediate level of proficiency in English.  The goal of this course is to prepare the students to enter college-level courses and/or compete in the job market.

Course Goals: Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. predict meaning of new academic vocabulary in thematic readings;
  2. correctly pronounce and use words included in the new academic vocabulary; and
  3. explain and use idiomatic expressions.
