ENG 106 American English Phonetics for the ESL Student

ENG 106         American English Phonetics for the ESL Student        (3 Credits)

This is a non-technical course for the student whose first  language is not English. It deals with the sounds of English and its sound  patterns (stress, rhythm, pitch, and intonation). Students practice words and  conversational phrases, listen to tapes, record their own voices, and give  talks in class. The goal is to enable them to be readily understood when they  speak English, and to understand the spoken English they hear.

Prerequisite: placement/  advisement.
