RST 125          PRINCIPLES OF VENTILATORY SUPPORT                 (4 Credits)

This course serves as an introduction to the physiologic principles and techniques of artificial ventilatory support.  Topics covered include airway management, indications for and application of mechanical ventilation, functional operation of mechanical ventilators, and basic monitoring and management of the patient in respiratory failure. Lecture hours: 30. Laboratory hours: 45.

Prerequisites: “C” or better in RST 100, RST 110, RST 118, and RST 123.

Co-requisites: RST 128, RST 212, RST 213, and RST 223.
