Course Description:  This course is designed to satisfy the educational requirement for licensure as a Building Inspector RCS.  The course is based on the International Residential Code (one- and two-family dwelling code), International Building Code, the Uniform Construction Code Regulations, NJAC 5:23.  It covers techniques for evaluating structural design and materials, plan review, basic fire protection requirements, and field inspection and reporting as applied to Class III residential and small commercial structures.  Reference is made to the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code.

Course Goals:  Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to do the following:

  1. identify, describe, and demonstrate the laws, procedures, and administrative practices relative to the New Jersey Construction Code Chapter 23, Title 5;
  2. explain the technical aspects of the structural design, material standards, and fire protection systems of class III building construction; and
  3. demonstrate proficient plan review inspection and reporting.
