ECC Student-Athletes Make All Regional First Teams
The Lady Wolverine soccer team, boasting a 9-2 record, garnered the top seed for the Region XIX Division I soccer tournament and will face Burlington County College in the semi-finals Wednesday, October 30. The game will start at 2:30 p.m. in Orange Park, Orange.
The men’s team, coming off a 10-4 regular season, received the Division I second seed and will play Mercer County Community College on Tuesday, October 29, at 2:30 p.m. also in Orange Park.
Both regional finals will be held Saturday November 2 at Ocean County College. The women are coached by Monique Edouard, while the men are led by Hugo Pierre.
ECC’s cross country teams are also primed for the 2013 Regional XIX Cross Country Championships. The championships will be held Sunday, October 27 at 10 a.m. in Lincroft, hosted by Brookdale Community College.
The success of both soccer teams this season is also reflected on the recently announced All Region XIX and All Garden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) first teams. In addition, two Lady Wolverines and one player from the men’s team have been nominated for All-American honors for their outstanding play this season.
Freshmen Marie Yasmine Alidou and Jodeen Whyte from the women’s team and first year player Joao Conceico, a Harrison resident, are the three ECC student-athletes nominated for All-American consideration. In addition, Marie was named the Region XIX Player of the Year. A resident of Montreal, Canada, Marie has 26 goals (good for 10th nationally) and 17 assists on the season. Jodeen, from St. Catherine in Jamaica, has tallied 25 goals, good for 13th in the nation, and 12 assists.
Lady Wolverines Yasmine Alidou and Jodeen Whyte were both named to the All Region XIX first team. Sophomores Orphise Saint Jean, of Elizabeth, and Kalicia Walker, of Kingston, Jamaica, were named to the region’s second team. Marie, Jodeen and Kalicia were all named to the All GSAC first tem, while Orphise and follow sophomore Christina Majette, of Newark, were recognized on the second team.
On the men’s side, Joao, sophomore Musa Sackoon, of Trinidad & Tobago, and freshmen Eran Kornberg (Fair Lawn), Kevin Seabrun (Trinidad & Tobago), and Frantzly Zephirin (Montreal) were all named to the All Region XIX first team. Joao, Musa, Eran, Kevin and freshman Mimy Duhamel (Brooklyn) were named to the All GSAC first team.
