A thrilling 3-2 victory in overtime against rival Mercer County Community College on Saturday catapulted the Lady Wolverines soccer team to the Region XIX championship. Next up for Region XIX Coach of the Year Monique Edouard’s team is the District E semifinal on Saturday, November 9 in Rhode Island.

Freshman Barbara Bolanos, of East Orange, netted the game winner in overtime. Her efforts resulted in her being named Player of the Game. Fellow freshmen Jodeen Whyte (St. Catherine, Jamaica) and Marie Yasmine Alidou (Montreal, Canada) also scored for ECC, 11-2 on the season. The game was held at Ocean County College.

The Lady Wolverines will now play Monroe College of New York at 1 p.m. Saturday. ECC lost a tough 2-1 contest at Monroe last month. The District E final will be played the next day. The district tournament is hosted by the Community College of Rhode Island.

Meanwhile, the men’s soccer team lost a heartbreaking double overtime game 3-2 in the Region XIX final to Burlington County College, also this past Saturday.  Coach Hugo Pierre’s squad ends the season with a 13-5 record.
