Three of Essex County College’s Associate in Applied Science Engineering Technology programs have received reaffirmation of full accreditation by the national accrediting agency ABET – Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.

The Electronic Engineering Technology program is accredited through September 30, 2023. Both the Civil Construction Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs are accredited through September 30, 2019.

The Baltimore-based agency recently announced the three programs remain fully accredited following ABET’s four member site review committee visit to the Newark campus.

Essex is one of five New Jersey community colleges (out of 19) that have programs accredited by ABET. In addition, the College is one of only two in the state with three Associate degree programs so accredited.

“We are grateful for ABET’s continued accreditation of our three degree programs,” said Dr. Jeffrey Lee, Vice President for Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer. “We look forward to developing these programs into even stronger job and career vehicles for our graduates.”

Dr. Dmitriy Kalantarov, Chair of the Division of Mathematics, Engineering Technologies & Computer Sciences, said that a lot of hard work and dedication at the College went into the continued accreditation of these program.

Dr. Jill Stein, Dean of the College’s STEM and Health Sciences, said that the three programs are excellent examples of the College providing sound career options for students.

ABET is the nationally recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. A key element in the process is the demonstration that a school continuously improves the quality of the education provided.
