Essex County College’s Physical Therapist Assistant program has received a 10-year reaffirmation of its accreditation from a national accrediting agency. The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) recently announced its decision following a campus site visit.

The accreditation for the Associate in Applied Science degree program will run through the spring of 2027. There are 53 students enrolled in the program which is part of the College’s Division of Nursing & Allied Health.

“This reaffirmation of our program is due to the hard work and dedication of our faculty along with the continued support of our administration, especially Dr. Jill Sein (Dean of STEM & Health Sciences),” said Dr. Christine Stutz-Doyle, PTA coordinator. PTA faculty also include Thomas Donofrio and Kenneth Mailly.

Dr. Stutz-Doyle said the process was “long and arduous, but definitely worth the effort as we continue to produce quality PTA graduates.”

Dr. Jeffrey Lee, Vice President of Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Officer, said, “This announcement from CAPTE proves that Essex County College is continuing to provide the best possible education for our students. Our academics is and remains strong.”

Essex President Anthony E. Munroe said, “Once again, our College continues to be a leading provider of high quality, affordable higher education in the State of New Jersey.”

Essex County College is one of only three state community colleges and one of 351 nationally to be accredited by CAPTE for its A.A.S. program.

CAPTE, based in Alexandria, Virginia, is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
