Call it an act of the Essex County College community giving to the community. In this case, it was for the College’s students.
In the true holiday spirit, the College held an Each One, Reach One ECC Holiday Clothing Giveaway this past Wednesday (December 13) and Thursday (December 14). The giveaway, which was held in the Newark campus Physical Education Building (PEB) hallway, was organized by the recently created Essex County College Disaster Relief Committee. A wide spectrum of clothing was donated by College staff at the beginning of December.
“Our effort was a huge success,” said Gerald Holloway, supervisor of PEB operations. He said over the two days that 52 coats, 37 sweaters and a “plethora” of shirts, socks, gloves, scarves and pants were given free to deserving students.
“This is the best feeling ever,” said Professor Margaret Stevens, who created the Disaster Relief Committee in the wake of the recent devastating hurricanes and earthquake that struck the southern United States, Caribbean and Mexico.
