Essex County College is offering a series of professional development courses, including a new Sign Language Communication program, starting in March. The classes will be held at the main Newark campus.

Sign Language Communication is a 10 session course that provides an introduction to the fundamentals of sign language and fine spelling. Two hundred basic signs will be introduced for use in communication with deaf children and adults in social, educational, medical and business situations. The class will meet Thursdays, starting March 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuition is $195. Information for this course is also available at (973) 877-1899.

 

Food Management ServSafe Food Safety Manager: Exam Prep & Exam is a three session program focusing on maximizing efficiency while learning industry standards in safety training. This course prepares students for the required exam. A minimum test score of 75 percent is required for food safety certification with the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation. The class will meet Saturdays, starting March 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Total cost is $168.

 

Grant Writing: Developing a Funding Plan is a course designed to teach participants how to research and write grant proposals. The three-session class will include such topics as grant research, identifying potential funding sources, and proposal development. The class will meet Saturdays, starting March 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuition is $195.

 

Event Planning Crash Course is a three session program in one of the hottest new fields available to people from all walks of life. Students will explore event planning for business and personal settings. The class will meet Wednesdays, starting March 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuition is $78.

 

Validation of Foreign Credentials is a one evening seminar on Monday, March 19, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The seminar will provide information about the process required to obtain United States equivalency of participants’ foreign education. Tuition is $26.
