West Essex staffers sorting prom dresses

This year’s Prom Dress Drive at the College’s West Essex campus was an overwhelming success, as the initial goal of 100 dresses for Catherine’s Closet was exceeded by a wide margin in just a few short weeks.

“Our goal this year was 100, but we received more than 126 dresses.  We are so grateful to all who donated to this wonderful cause,” said program organizer Dennia Rentzis, Coordinator of Admissions at the West Essex campus. She has been running the collection drive since 2009.

son, a Clifford Scott (East Orange) High School student who was struck and killed by a stolen vehicle. Over the years, more than 6,000 area girls have benefitted from the organization.

Dresses that do not qualify for Catherine’s Closet are donated to local charities.

Although the West Essex drive is over, donations will be accepted at Catherine’s Closet on Saturday, February 24, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., 550 Broad Street, 4th Floor, Newark.
