Open Public Records Act (OPRA)

On July 7, 2002, the Open Public Records Act (P.L 2001, s.404) became effective. This law expands the public’s right of access to government records and facilitates the way in which that access is provided by the custodian of those records.

There are both general and specific exemptions that apply to the definition of “government record.” For more information on the OPRA law, follow the link below to the Government Records Council website:

OPRA Requests
OPRA requests are processed through the Essex County College Custodian of Public Records, located in the Human Resources Department, 5th Floor, Newark campus.
