SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA FOR ECC RETURNING STUDENTS
General Statement
Essex County College awards scholarships to students who have
demonstrated outstanding academic promise and met the criteria for
scholarships, which vary in monetary value. They are awarded each academic
semester.
Scholarships which are offered for the Spring and Summer Terms are made
available only upon the approval of the President’s Office.
A. ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIES AND COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT AWARD
The Computer Science Department Award was established in September
1987 to assist students in the CIS Department to continue their
education at Essex County College. The scholarship carries a monetary
value of $300.00 per semester.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- Registered in one of the CIS degree programs (2002, 2007 or 2302).
- Completed at least 12 credits of curriculum requirements in the
above programs.
- 3. Demonstrated academic performance and promise. (Minimum GPA of
3.0).
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Not available to financial aid students.
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
B. DINGLER FOUNDATION
SCHOLARSHIP
The Dingler Foundation Scholarship was established by the Trustees of
The Christian and Teresa M. Dingler Foundation. Its purpose is to
provide financial assistance to promising but needy residents of Essex
County who attend Essex County College.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- For new and returning students majoring in high or medium
technology programs.
- Academic promise and performance. (GPA minimum of 3.0)
- U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.
- Resident of Essex County.
- Not available to students receiving financial aid.
C. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT
SCHOLARSHIP
The International Student Scholarship was established to provide a
fair, equitable and competitive means for distributing college
scholarship resources to foreign students.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- Be an F-1 visa student in good standing with the college and the U.S
Department of Immigration and Naturalization Service.
- Complete at least 12 credits with a grade point average of 3.0 or
better.
- Demonstrate need for reduced tuition.
D. PEPSI RENAISSANCE
SCHOLARSHIP
The Pepsi Renaissance Scholarship has been established by the
Pepsi-Cola Company to provide financial assistance to Newark residents
attending Essex County College. Each scholarship has a monetary value of
$500.00. The scholarships are open to continuing and graduating
students.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- Demonstrated academic promise and performance. (Minimum GPA of 3.0)
- City of Newark resident.
- Demonstrated active community service.
E. PRESIDENTIAL TUITION
SCHOLARSHIP
The Presidential Tuition Scholarship was established in August, 1979
by the President of Essex County College. Its purpose is to provide
access to higher education for needy and deserving students who have
demonstrated the ability to succeed academically. The scholarship has
three components which are: (1) economically disadvantaged, (2)
scholastic achievement, and (3) administrative. The scholarship pays the
tuition for the semester or session awarded.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- Demonstrated academic promise and performance. (Minimum GPA of 2.0)
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Not available to students receiving financial aid.
F. THEODORE NALESNIK
SCHOLARSHIP
The Theodore Nalesnik Scholarship was established in January, 1993 by
the Honorable Theodore Nalesnik, former mayor of Fairfield and member of
the West Essex Campus Advisory Board. Its purpose is to provide
financial assistance, up to $300 per semester, to a Fairfield resident
who enrolls as a student at Essex County College.
The criteria for the scholarship are as follows:
- Must reside in Fairfield, New Jersey.
- New or continuing student at Essex County College.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Demonstrated academic promise and/or performance by a 2.0 grade
point average in high school or college, respectively.
- Demonstrated financial need. The award is not available to students
receiving financial aid.
Applications from new students will be accepted from May 1 through July
31. Continuing ECC students must apply three weeks prior to the first day
of classes of the Semester/Term for which the scholarship is to apply.
Applications are available at the main campus in the Office of the Dean
of Student Affairs and at the West Essex Campus in the Office of the
Director for Academic Programs.
G.
SARAH, EARL AND DONALD RYAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
Sarah, Earl and Donald Ryan Memorial Scholarship Fund was established
at Essex County College in 2001 by the trustees of a charitable trust
fund of the late Donald C. Ryan. The main purpose of the scholarship is
to assist financially needy students enrolled at Essex County College.
In order to qualify for this scholarship, applicants should meet the
following minimum criteria:
- Demonstrate high financial needs.
- Demonstrate high degree of scholastic achievement and effort.
- Be enrolled full time.
