DONOR-ADMINISTERED SCHOLARSHIPS: A. ANHEUSER-BUSCH/URBAN LEAGUE OF ESSEX COUNTY SCHOLARSHIP - The Anheuser-Busch/Urban League of Essex County Scholarship (hereafter referred to as “The Scholarship”), financially assists Essex County residents who are either attending or planning to attend Essex County College and who have exhausted all other sources of financing their education. The sole funding for these awards is a grant from Anheuser-Busch. The Scholarship covers the cost of up to nine (9) credits each semester towards the student’s degree program. Additionally, up to 1/2 of the cost of course books (or $210.00 whichever is less) will be provided. No substitutions of the above awards can be made. Application and Award Process - All applications must be approved by the student’s academic counselor (if she/he has one). If this is not obtainable, a written statement to this effect MUST be included with the application. To be considered for an award, a completed application must be submitted by November 1 for the following Spring Semester and May 1 for the following Fall Semester. Any applications missing information, or deemed unreadable, will NOT be considered. Once an application is submitted, no further information may be submitted. All applicants must be at least 18 years old, UNLESS they graduated from high school prior to their 18th birthday. All applicants MUST possess either a high school diploma or a general equivalency diploma (GED). Only students attending or planning to attend Essex County College may apply. If an applicant is not currently an ECC student, the award will not be disbursed until proof of enrollment at ECC has been presented. All applications will be reviewed by the Urban League Scholarship Committee, which will consist of the Community Outreach Coordinator, a member of both the Urban League Executive Staff and the Board of Trustees and a community representative and will meet approximately one month after the application closing date. The decisions of the committee will be announced approximately one month prior to the start of the next semester. All applicants will be notified of their award status at that time. All committee decisions are final. Selection Criteria and Award Disbursement - Criteria for the awarding of scholarships include the following: Academic standing and/or performance; extracurricular activities and/or work history; demonstration of writing skills through completion of essay question; and proof of financial need on the part of the applicant. In addition, preference will be shown to applicants in the following categories: single heads of households; displaced homemakers; non-traditional students; minority females; and applicants with physically or educationally challenged situations. The award is payable to Essex County College only and will not be disbursed to the award recipient. Essex County College shall bill the Urban League for tuition and book costs no later than six weeks after the end of the enrollment period. The award is non-transferable and is in no way considered an obligation of either the Urban League of Essex County or Anheuser-Busch, Inc., in any manner other than described herein. Award Recipient Responsibilities - All scholarship recipients must maintain at least a 2.5 semester AND cumulative GPA. Grade reports from the current semester must be included as part of the re-application process for the following semester. The re-application forms, which will be sent prior to the end of the semester, must be returned to the Urban League office upon receipt of the grade report. Course withdrawals may jeopardize subsequent scholarship eligibility. An explanation of the withdrawal will be required for next semester consideration. The Urban League of Essex County reserves the right to change the above policies and procedures of the scholarship program at any time without prior notice. B.
