National Hispanic Heritage Month has come to Essex County College with a series of virtual programs via Zoom.

The programs were developed by Student Life & Activities Director Jamil Graham and Student Life Program Coordinator Joseph Ott, along with the Student Government Association leadership.

The first event, on October 7, featured live art demonstrations with SGA President Sapphire Rodriguez and SGA Vice President Jessica Lopez.  “We have a lot of student artists here at Essex, so this program was a logical one to have,” said Mr. Ott. “It’s nice when we can highlight these talented students,” he added.

Next up, on Wednesday, October 14 at 2:30 p.m., is the Hispanic Quiz Bowl with a $25 gift card as the prize. This event tests student knowledge of Hispanic culture. Jessica helped develop the questions to test general knowledge.

The final event is Hispanic Cuisine on Wednesday, October 21 at 2:30 p.m. “We will be demonstrating start to finish recipes and easy to prepare meals,” said Mr. Ott. He added these recipes can all be followed at home for satisfying meals.
