Congressional Representatives Learn About Essex

Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill and Alfred Bundy at the National Legislative Summit

Essex County College (ECC) was well represented during the recent Association of Community College Trustees’ annual National Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.

ECC President Dr. Anthony E. Munroe, Board of Trustees Chair Thomas McDermott, Jr., and Executive Director of Institutional Advancement Alfred Bundy made the trip February 11-13.

A key component of the trip is for College officials to meet with member of their respective Congressional delegations. These meeting have been designed to give colleges an opportunity to strengthen relationships with members of Congress.

The Essex delegation met with U.S. Senators Cory Booker and Robert Menendez, and U.S. Representatives Donald M. Payne, Jr. (D-10) and Mikie Sherrill (D-11). Congresswoman Sherrill’s district covers a portion of Essex County, including West Caldwell where the College’s West Essex campus is located.

Dr. Phil Linfante, an ECC Social Sciences professor, serves as the chair of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges and also attended the summit. “I understand the impact the 19 community colleges have on the residents of New Jersey. As one of those 19, I know firsthand that Essex County College is one of the economic and educational engines for business, industry and government in Essex County and has been for decades. It is clear that Essex County College, led by President Munroe and Board Chair McDermott, are well respected by their congressional representatives.”
