New Leadership for College Trustee Board

Dr. Marion A. Bolden is the new chair of the Essex County College Board of Trustees, following her election to the position at the November 19 reorganization meeting. Dr. Arnold C. Lewis was elected vice chair of the board.

“It is a great honor that I have this opportunity to serve as chair of our College’s Board,” said Dr. Bolden, taking note of the institution’s recent 50th anniversary celebration. “I look forward to Essex County College’s next 50 years of service, as we implement new programs, including Guided Pathways, which will provide a solid foundation for success to our students.”

Dr. Bolden served as Newark Public Schools Superintendent for nine years. She previously held several administrative positions after starting her career as a mathematics teacher at Barringer High School. In 2009, she founded and serves as chair of the Newark Public School Historical Preservation Committee. She is also Secretary of the Newark Symphony Hall Board of Directors.

Dr. Lewis is Director of the Public Policy & Administration Minor BA-MA program in the Department of Political Science at William Paterson University.

Jeweline Grimes and the Rev. Dr. Lanel D. Guyton were reelected Board of Trustees Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, at the November 19 meeting.
