Track & Field Teams Headed to National Championships

The Essex County College Men’s and Women’s track teams will be well-represented at this weekend’s National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships. The season’s signature event will be held March 6-7 in Lynchburg, Virginia.

On the Men’s side, Navasky Anderson will compete in the 800M. Navasky is currently ranked 3rd in the NJCAA 2019-2020 rankings with a best time of 1:51.17. Leon Clarke, ranked 8th, will run in the 600M. Also competing for ECC’s Men’s team is Jungle Koliyah in the 60M and Carl Drakes in the 200M.  

In addition, the ECC Men will compete in the 4×400 Replay and the Distance Medley with Navasky Anderson, Leon Clarke, Shelton St. Rose, and Carl Drakes.

For the Women, Samara Edward will compete in the 600M and Aaliyah Gordon in the 800M. The Women’s contingent also includes relays in the 4×400, 4×800 and Distance Medley with Samara Edward, Aaliyah Gordon, India Norman, and Megan Thompson.

“The Track & Field Program has made great strides this season under the direction of Head Coach Lionel Leach,” said Athletic Director Michael Doughtie.  “I am excited to see our outstanding student-athletes compete at the highest level this weekend. I’m confident that Essex County College Track & Field is on its way back to national contention.”
