ECC’s main campus gives students all the benefits of being in New Jersey’s largest city, Newark – plenty of fun things to do, one of the most diverse communities in the area, and convenient means of transportation. In addition to the benefits of Newark itself, ECC coordinates a variety of social, cultural, intellectual, and recreational programs both on and off campus. The Student Life and Activities Office (SLAO) is responsible for publishing the LIFELINE student handbook and ECCO student newspaper, and also operates the Clara E. Dasher Student Center.

In addition to a fully-equipped fitness and recreational center, ECC offers a number of intermural sports leagues and events, as well as many other athletic events. ECC proudly supports its Wolverines in basketball, soccer, track & field and cross-country. Many ECC athletes have gone on to become scholarship athletes at major universities.
The Student Government Association provides representation in the planning, execution, and evaluation of actions affecting the College’s student body, serves as a means whereby student opinions, views, suggestions, and aspirations may be properly discussed and acted upon, and provides guidance and financial assistance to student clubs and organizations.
The Honors Program is a rigorous academic program for students interested in transferring to competitive colleges and universities. The program is designed to provide a challenging and demanding academic curriculum for high-achieving students.
The Essex County College Alumni Association is about honoring and staying connected with our alumni. The Alumni Association provides a forum for current and former students to communicate, to provide input on the college’s direction, and to organize fundraisers for scholarships and other initiatives.
The Africana Institute is ECC’s center for the exploration and critical examination of the African global experience. We invite all students to join in the development and participation of a wide variety of academic, cultural and social programs, which will range from the diverse experiences of people of African descent from Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean Islands and beyond.
Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society for two-year college students in the world. The Alpha Theta Theta Chapter recognizes and encourages scholarship among Essex County College students.
