The Finance Department at Essex County College is dedicated to supporting the College in its mission to serve the needs of the community through comprehensive educational programs and services. Our main goal is to assist management in effectively managing the College’s resources.
Our office is located on the 6th floor in the main building at 303 University Ave, Newark NJ 07102.  Office hours are 8:30 am through 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, September 1, through June 30th.  Our Summer schedule is 8:30 am to 6 pm, Monday through Thursday from July 1st to August 31st.
George Peterson, Chief Financial Officer Biography

Meet George Peterson

George Peterson has joined the Essex County College team as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Mr. Peterson brings a wealth of experience to the key College position, having worked for many years in a wide variety of private sector organizations and international universities. He has development experience while living and working in Africa, the Middle East,, Asia, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean, and Central America.

The College’s CFO has extensive experience in planning, coordinating, and managing the strategic and daily operations of both non-profit and for-profit organizations.  He is skilled in collaborating to achieve an organization’s business, financial, and information technology objectives. He has in depth experience in driving change, improving, and streamlining processes, and implementing technology solutions in organizations.

“I welcome Mr. George Peterson to the Essex County College family. His knowledge and broad experience will prove extremely valuable to our College as we move forward,” said ECC Interim President Dr. Augustine A. Boakye.

His higher education administration experience includes:

  • Founding Vice President Finance and Administration, American University of Nigeria
  • Vice President Finance and Administration, American University of Iraq, Sulaimani
  • Interim Vice President Finance and Administration, American University of Afghanistan
  • Founding Vice President International Relations, SolBridge International School of Business in South Korea
  • Interim Director, International Business College Mitrovica in Kosovo

Mr. Peterson has Masters (Business Administration and Computer Engineering) and undergraduate (Operations Research) degrees from Cornell University. He has completed the

coursework for a Ph.D. In Finance and Economics at New York University.  He also has CPA certification.



Payment can be made via the web at or at the Bursars Office cashier’s window located on the fourth floor of the Newark Campus or the first floor of the West Essex Campus. Methods of payment include American Express, Discover, Visa/MasterCard (credit and debit cards) cash, checks and money orders. Unpaid registrations will be voided.

Office hours during in-person and late registration are extended to accommodate the needs of our students and are made available in the course schedule booklet.

In addition to tuition payments, we accept payments for parking, transcripts, identification card replacement and library fines.

We also accept scholarship payments, agency billings, charge-backs and refund requests.
