ECC Business Students Recognized Among Top 1% in New Jersey

Newark, N.J.– Five students at Essex County College will be inducted into the prestigious New Jersey Collegiate Business Administration Association (NJCBAA) Honor Society on Friday, May 2, at the New Jersey State House, Assembly Chambers and Gallery, in Trenton.

Each year, the statewide Honor Society recognizes the best and brightest business scholars at two-and four-year colleges in New Jersey. Only the top 1% of students at their respective institutions have been extended an invitation to join this Honor Society.

This year’s honorees, all belonging to the class of 2025, are Doris Chabla, Ariana Espinal, Gabriela Lopez, Jonathan Philippe, and Alexander Takchand.

“We are honored to have five ECC students among the top 1% of business students in two and four-year institutions across our state”, said Dr. Augustine A. Boakye, President of Essex County College. “This recognition from the state-wide NJCBAA is a testament to the tremendous work, dedication and commitment to excellence of our faculty who work collaboratively to prepare our students for careers in Accounting, Business, Finance, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management, among others.”

Business Division Chair Germaine Albuquerque also shared his perspective on the recognition and the students’ preparation.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our graduating students recognized in this way,” said Albuquerque. “Their success reflects the strong foundation they built here at Essex County College and within the Business Division. We’re proud to have played a part in their journey, and we look forward to seeing how they apply what they’ve learned in the next chapter of their careers.”

Essex County College’s Business Division offers a wide range of associate degree and certificate programs that prepare students for immediate careers or further study. Faculty bring both academic expertise and real-world experience from across the business sector.

The induction of these five students into the NJCBAA Honor Society reflects ECC’s ongoing mission to empower students through academic excellence, career readiness and leadership development.
