ECC Hosts “1440” Time Management Workshop for Students

NEWARK, N.J –  As students return to campus for a new semester, Essex County College is offering new and expanded support services designed to help Wolverines stay on track academically and beyond.

Bernard Pearson, founder and lead consultant at Fourteen Forty LLC, leads a 1440 time management workshop for ECC students Thursday, Jan. 29.

“Called 1440,” the interactive workshop – hosted by the Office of Student Affairs and conceived by consultant Bernard Pearson of Fourteen Forty LLC. – offers individuals, school districts, colleges and organizations transformative strategies to improve their time management, productivity, and efficiency.

During the event, held Thursday, Jan. 29, at ECC’s Newark campus, Pearson discussed the unprecedented levels of distraction and procrastination that can hinder academic progress and underscored the value of time and developing core habits.

“Allocating time to yourself means being deliberate and intentional about you,” Pearson said. “If you’re not right, then your relationships are not right, and you’re not allocating enough time to yourself.”

Roughly 82-85% of college students struggle with time management, according to a 2023 study conducted by Statista.com, while 54% report an increase in stress due to poor time management practices.

ECC’s comprehensive student support services and counseling help ensure that ongoing commitments, such as classes or work, do not feel overwhelming and empower students to accomplish tasks with confidence.

By offering skill-building workshops like 1440 alongside ongoing academic and personal support, Essex County College continues to equip students with practical tools to manage their time, reduce stress, and stay focused on their goals – both inside and outside the classroom.
