ECC Hosts 27th Annual Employee Recognition Ceremony

NEWARK, N.J. — Essex County College hosted its 27th annual Employee Recognition Ceremony at the Newark campus on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, honoring nearly 40 employees who have reached meaningful milestones in their careers at ECC.

President Dr. Augustine A. Boakye opened the celebration by acknowledging the heart and dedication behind the work employees do each day.

“What we do at this College is more than just the things we can see with our eyes,” Dr. Boakye shared. “Together, we have changed lives. Everywhere you go, not only here in the county, you will see what Essex County College has done and is doing. Your unique talents and deep commitment—that is what makes us who we are.”

Newly-appointed Board of Trustees President Dr. Arnold C. Lewis echoed that message in a written statement, crediting ECC employees for shaping the student experience. “Our students and alumni are change agents because of the work you do as staff, faculty, administrators, and community leaders… Your hard work, creativity, and care make a lasting difference every day.”

What began 27 years ago as a simple acknowledgment of service has grown into a cherished ECC tradition—one that now honors excellence across 11 categories and celebrates the people who keep the College moving forward.

This year’s program also included reflections from three longtime employees—Dr. Keith Kirkland, Dean of Student Affairs; Frank Duroy, Ed.D., Professor of Biological Sciences; and Mila Salazar-Bruan, Professor of Humanities & Bilingual Studies—each of whom has served the College for more than 30 years. Their stories offered a heartfelt reminder of the dedication, community spirit, and quiet leadership that define Essex County College.

The Employee Recognition Ceremony continues to highlight the dedication and contributions of ECC’s faculty and staff.
