Why ECC?
NEWARK, N.J.– Essex County College’s Training, Inc. program received a $385,946 Growing Apprenticeships in Nontraditional Sectors (GAINS) grant from the New Jersey Department of Labor. The grant funds apprenticeship opportunities in partnership with RWJ Barnabas Health and University Hospital, offering pathways for Certified Clinical Medical Assistants and Patient Care Technicians.
In addition, the Office of Apprenticeship approved ECC as an Intermediary Sponsor for CNA Advanced (PCT) and Medical Assistant Registered Apprenticeships. This designation underscores ECC’s leadership in healthcare workforce training and its long-standing commitment to preparing residents for in-demand careers.
In a typical year, ECC’s Community, Continuing Education, and Workforce Development programs serve more students than its traditional degree pathways—delivering diverse educational opportunities for learners of all ages and backgrounds. By partnering with community organizations and local employers, the College ensures its classes provide practical, real-world skills that can be applied immediately in the workplace.
“This award reflects our long history of providing high-quality apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship training,” said Mitra Choudhury, Training, Inc. Director. “We are excited to continue serving the community at large with innovative, accessible programs that prepare residents for healthcare careers.”
