ECC Summer Programs Support Student Success

NEWARK, N.J. — Essex County College’s 2026 Summer Youth and Pre-College Readiness Programs are underway, providing students with opportunities to strengthen academic skills, explore new interests and prepare for future educational success. The programs also include free meals for participants through the Summer Food Service Program.

The Summer Youth Program serves students in grades 1–8 (ages 6–13) and offers activities in literacy, mathematics, coding, fine arts, performing arts and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). The program is designed to keep students engaged in learning while school is out for the summer.

The Early College Summer Program – Pre-College Readiness is available to rising high school juniors and seniors who reside in Essex County. Participants can earn up to six college credits through CSS 101 (College Success Seminar) and ENG 101 (English Composition) while building the academic, professional, and social skills needed to prepare for college. The program also includes workshops focused on college and career exploration.

“We want students to stay engaged, continue learning, and feel supported throughout the summer,” said Angela McKinney, director of On-Campus Continuing Education at Essex County College. “This program gives families access to both enrichment and daily meals in a structured, welcoming environment.”

Both programs are being held at Essex County College’s Newark campus, 303 University Ave., through Aug. 21. Sessions are offered Monday through Thursday, and free meals are provided to all participants through the Summer Food Service Program.
