The Nursing Department offers the A.A.S. degree program designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in hospitals and other health care facilities immediately upon graduation.

Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the certification exam (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse. The Department also offers the opportunity for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to gain credit for previous LPN education and license toward the completion of an A.A.S. degree in Nursing.

The Nursing program utilizes state-of-the-art on-campus laboratories, including a nursing simulation laboratory and a multimedia computer laboratory, to facilitate student learning.

Many colleges have upper-division nursing programs which allow Associate Degree graduates to transfer most or all of their credits toward a Bachelor of Science degree program in Nursing (B.S.N.).

Currently, Essex County College has such articulation agreements with New York University, New Jersey City University, St. Peter’s College, Felician College, Kean University, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, and William Paterson University.

Students seeking admission to any of the ECC Nursing programs must complete online applications by following dates:

  • LPN program application is open from April 15-June 30 for Spring (January) admission.
  • RN Nursing program application is open from January 15-March 31 for Fall (September) admission. All prerequisites must be completed or transferred by December 31 of the year prior to applying to the program.
  • LPN-RN program application is open from July 15-August 31 for Spring (January) admission. All prerequisites must be completed by August 31.
  • TEAS testing will be arranged after an application is submitted and reviewed. No outside test scores accepted.
