Why ECC?
Essex County College Custodial Services strives to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff and the public while maintaining facilities in accordance with the College’s rules and regulations at the highest standards. Our primary purpose is to keep the facilities clean and sanitary through daily maintenance of each building, which cultivates a pleasant, safe, and healthy learning environment.
The Custodial Services department provides a clean, healthy, and safe campus environment to the Essex County College Community. Our staff covers all buildings and campuses, corridors, lecture halls, labs, classrooms, offices, restrooms, elevators, and stairwells. Custodial Services also assist in campus events as well as external events.
Cleaning Schedules are based on the Course Schedule and in addition to frequency of use. For information regarding custodial services, tasks frequencies click here.
All custodial requests must be submitted on a work request.

Enjoy our accommodating facilities, beautiful setting, and convenient location. The college offers a range of facilities, equipment, and support services all provided at reasonable rates.
Essex County College has a broad spectrum of facilities to accommodate the needs of businesses, organizations, and individuals. Among the College’s more outstanding features are our 434-seat Mary Burch Theater, a large and comprehensive Physical Education Building, and the 367-seater J. Harry Smith Lecture Hall. Our facilities can host large and small groups in a variety of settings.
Essex County College is located in the heart of University Heights in Newark New Jersey and is situated on a beautiful 21-acre site that provides spectacular panoramic views of downtown Newark and New York City. The college is easily accessible from state highways 21, 280, and 1&9 and a short commute from Newark International Airport. Schedule your next workshop, training session, seminar, or presentation in one of ECC’s many SMART classrooms or lecture halls. Theatre-style lecture halls provide an outstanding venue for presentations and lectures. Computer labs feature Windows platform computers equipped with the latest software (business, graphics, networking, etc).
Classrooms: 20 to 35 people
Lecture Halls: 290 to 367 people
Multipurpose Rooms: 90 to150
Hold a performance or special event at one of our unique venues. Concerts, graduations, lectures, dance shows, information fairs, theatrical productions, and receptions are some of the many events that have been held in these special performance venues.
The Mary Burch Theater is a multiuse venue that includes lighting and sound technicians, as well as two dressing rooms. The Greenroom area is conveniently located adjacent to the theater to provide refreshments.
Our Gymnasium also includes locker rooms and adjacent classroom space. There is also a dance studio located on the lower level.
The J. Harry Smith and Siegler Halls are ideal for conferences, small graduations, and workshops. The venue includes a stage, screen, and podium.
For Special Events, Essex County College can provide public address systems, projectors and screens. Classrooms and lecture halls are also equipped with data ports. Media equipment also includes podiums with traditional and wireless microphones.
