Why ECC?
At Essex County College, students don't need to make separate purchases for textbooks.
Wolverine Smart Books course material program is created in partnership with Akademos by VitalSource, Essex County College‘s Wolverine Smart Books course material program is an innovative, personalized, and affordable solution for students. At the start of each qualifying term, all students will have access to all the digital course materials they need to succeed.
Faculty select the course material; Chairpersons submit the request through the online bookstore website and then Akademos delivers the course materials in digital formats.
Students are automatically enrolled in the program with the option to opt out.
Once registered for the upcoming term, materials are compiled and digital course material access information is emailed to students.
Students get access to all course materials prior to the first day of class through Moodle and ecc.vitalsource.com (log into the website with your ECC single sign-on account)
Log into the website with your ECC single sign on account, go to ‘Search’ to locate that item to see if there is a print option available for you to purchase.
Not much at all!
Contact ecc.vitalsource.com/help if you have any questions.
You can also find the opt out dates by visiting the bursar website https://www.essex.edu/course-material-fee-opt-out/
When you opt out of one course material, you automatically opt out of the program for the semester. You will be responsible for obtaining your own course materials for the semester.
Depending on the type of item, materials will be available through a publisher website, or through VitalSource. If you ever need a reminder about what digital course materials you should have access to, visit “My Library” in ecc.vitalsource.com to see a master list.
When students are provided with their materials on time and at an affordable cost, they can engage with them early and often and experience better learning outcomes resulting in successful program completion and graduation.
When working with Akademos, faculty and administrators decide what is best for students and have complete control over every adoption and delivery type. Because the model carries a software and logistics fee and no margins on the materials themselves, Essex County College has complete control over the costs of the program. There is an adoption cost insight report, which can become the cornerstone of your Essex Essex County College’s course materials adoption strategy. From there, administrators can analyze adoption patterns at the course, instructor, department, or campus level.
Students who purchase physical materials on their own will receive them at the delivery address they provided at checkout.
Through that page, students can use dynamic help tools to get answers to their questions, or they can access the support phone number or bookstore email address.

New Pivot Table highlighting Red ISBNs
This pivot table to in place to help you easily see how many individual titles are impacted. Because a title could be adopted across multiple sections or courses, this table allows you to quickly see which adoptions are affecting multiple courses versus just a single course or two. We hope this provides you with a quick high-level understanding of where the at-risk titles stand.
