Sankofa Royal Celebration

Celebrate 25 years of scholarship, culture, and global connection with the Africana Institute at Essex County College. Rooted in the Ghanaian principle of Sankofa—learning from the past to shape the future—the Institute has spent a quarter century advancing African and African diaspora history, culture, and knowledge while building bridges across Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, and the global African diaspora.

Join us for an inspiring anniversary celebration and invest in the next generation of scholars and leaders. Your support strengthens one of New Jersey’s leading hubs for African and African diaspora research, cultural programming, and global engagement. Contributions directly support:

  • Expanded academic and cultural initiatives
  • Study-abroad scholarships for ECC students
  • The Africana Institute’s long-term endowment
  • Strengthen student leadership

As part of the milestone, the Africana Institute will publish a 25th Anniversary Commemorative Journal recognizing the history, impact, and future of the Institute. Individuals, organizations, and businesses are invited to place advertisements, tributes, and congratulatory messages. Sponsors and advertisers will be recognized during the celebration and featured in the commemorative publication.

Together, we can ensure that the Africana Institute’s next 25 years continue to advance scholarship, expand global engagement, and create meaningful opportunities for community connection.
